Well, TLK was no released in bluray yet, so no HD video is avalaible(if you see something higher than 720x480 IS upscaling!), so the bad results you are getting may be because adjust of the program you use to do gifs (or the program that donīt work well, try another)
Also if you have the dvd, remember that vob files are simply MPEG2 files, so if you need to open a video in your gif make program you may open the own vob files to get the images you want, just make sure you are using some dvd unlocker program such anydvd, or the reading from disk may fail.
