Yes, Mama Mia and Across the Universe are both jukebox musicals. It doesn't even have to be the same artist. Moulin Rouge is also a jukebox musical, even though it's a film. Technically, American Idiot is as well since it's not the same storyline as the original concept album. Even if the story were the same, it'd still be a jukebox musical actually.

And I can see a lot of similarities in American Idiot the musical to "Across the Universe" and a small theatre production that was done in my home town a couple of years ago called "Lavv". It's a pretty basic storyline they used, in my opinon. Mind you, I liked everything else about the show, just not really the story

I just read the plot on Wikipedia, and wut. I can see the similarities with Across the Universe too... they totally killed the plot of the album.

After listening to the whole album, I guess you're right. Both album are a concept album but the story unite both album and make it as a musical. But they don't have Christian or Gloria in the story but both movies have a similar theme about alienation, lost love, and personal matter.
